For the humanity!!!

I cannot speak intelligently about the new health care bill as I do not know much about it. I am not a very political person. I cannot tell you who my local representatives are. I can however tell you this...I support social medicine and I think any start to change is a good thing. GASP! Everybody take a deep breath. I do not consider my self a socialist. BUT, I want to raise my children in a country where their health does not rely on the job they have providing them with insurance. If Liam wants to grow up and sell fruit on the side of the road I do not want to worry that he may die from cancer. I do not think that only the rich should be responsible for caring for my fruit selling child's health. But I ask you this...how can we be a nation that has public schools for all, libraries, police stations, fire stations, and amazing roads but not health care? We don't need free books and roads to live. I can teach Liam to read on my own, but I cannot cure him of a brain tumor. Luckily, my child is healthy. I do not have any overwhelming medical bills. We happen to have great insurance provided through Bill's work. Here is the thing though, I know we are lucky. I live in blissful ignorance. I am not aware of how it feels to have a sick child with bills stacking up. BUT, I do know that it is blissful to be in my situation and not in the other. So in the realization of that understanding, I am willing to give some of what is mine to those who aren't as lucky as I. Life is unpredictable and unfair. One day I may find myself on the other side and if I do, I pray that others would be willing to give too...for the humanity.
